If you’ve ever felt frustrated doing all the “right” things—eating less, exercising more, trying to be disciplined—this is for you.
One of the biggest mindset shifts I teach at LEAN & Vital is this: Your body isn’t broken. It’s responding exactly as it was designed to.

For women, especially in midlife, metabolic health is not about calories alone. It’s about blood sugar, hormones, nourishment, and safety.
Here are the 5 principles I teach inside Fasting Like a Girl—and why they matter so much.
1. Blood Sugar Matters More Than Calories
When blood sugar is constantly spiking and crashing, the body shifts into protection mode. Cravings increase, energy drops, and fat loss stalls.
Stabilizing blood sugar creates calm in the nervous system and clarity in hunger cues. This is why fasting and nutrition must work together, not against the body.
2. Eat Nature’s Carbs, Not Manmade Carbs
Carbs aren’t the problem—ultra-processed food is.
Nature’s carbs come packaged with fiber, minerals, and antioxidants that support blood sugar balance. Highly processed carbs do the opposite.
This isn’t about restriction. It’s about choosing foods your body recognizes and trusts.
3. Feed Your Microbiome, Not Just Your Tastebuds
Your gut plays a powerful role in hormone balance, inflammation, cravings, and metabolism.
Daily plant variety feeds beneficial bacteria that help regulate blood sugar and support fat metabolism. Consistency—not perfection—is the goal.
This is why I emphasize real food first and whole-food support when life gets busy.
4. Protein Is the Hero Macronutrient

Protein stabilizes blood sugar, protects lean muscle
, and supports metabolic health.
Many women unknowingly under-eat protein, sending stress signals to the body. When protein intake improves, fasting becomes easier and energy steadier.
5. Fat Doesn’t Make You Fat
Healthy fats support hormones, brain health, and satiety

—especially for women navigating perimenopause and beyond.
When paired with protein and whole foods, fat becomes stabilizing and nourishing, not something to fear.
The LEAN & Vital Approach
This work is not about extremes. It’s about simple, sustainable shifts that support the body’s natural wisdom.
If this resonates, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
If you’d like support implementing these principles through coaching, fasting education, or whole-food nutrition, I’d love to walk alongside you.
